The Never-Ending Successes of Matt Landis

Matt Landis is both an academician as well as a starting player on Notre Dame Lacrosse Team. He has shown impressive dedication on and off the field by maintaining a balance between academics and sports. As a student, he studies Finance. He plays as a defenseman on Fighting Irish Lacrosse squad. He also holds a part-time job and yet he manages to get some time to act as an ordinary American kid in his 20s. He also has other interests that include, hiking skeet shooting, volunteering, skiing and reading.
Although Landis is well known for his skills in lacrosse, his high school days were marked with various successes that extended beyond the field. This Pelham Memorial graduate also stood out on hockey and football teams. Landis was the football team’s defensive most valuable player while a junior and sophomore. During his junior season, he was third team linebacker.

Landis played hockey all his four years of high school. He was a two-time Westchester county All-section and a three-time Westchester County All-League. He was also twice named as the hockey captain. As a junior and a senior, he got the first team all-state accolades in the Division II hockey. While still in high school, Landis would volunteer in community outreaches, usher at his church, and coach the youth lacrosse team.

Landis played for all the four seasons on his Varsity team and was the captain during his final two seasons. During his senior campaign, he earned the first team All-State and All-American honors. While still in his junior and senior year, he was the Westchester County All-Section and a four time Westchester County All-League. Beyond school, he played lacrosse for Colsey’s Superstar team and Empire Games.

In his senior year, Landis got the 2012 Russ Simon Sportsmanship Award. That same year he was also named Pelham Memorial Athlete of the Year. He graduated with a GPA of 3.6 and was a member of the National Hispanic Society and the National Honor Society. He was a top-pick for most universities in the entire US but he settled for Notre Dame where he would play lacrosse while studying finance.

2015 has also brought him more popularity and successes. In early May, he was named the Defensive player of the year. He was also honored by being nominated for 2015 Tewaaraton Award. He has been recognized as the player of the week of Epoch and Lacrosse Magazine following his team’s victory to Albany’s Lyle.
